(SCENE) Metrospace
2004-2005
Leslie Donaldson launched (SCENE) Metrospace in 2004 in a donated vacant bank building in downtown East Lansing. Sanctioned by the City of East Lansing with support from the Downtown Development Authority, (SCENE) was initially designed to promote new and experimental artworks in vacant spaces. Supported by a team of volunteers and advisors, (SCENE) drew attention across the state and was recognized as a best practice creative placemaking model under Governor Jennifer Granholm’s Cool Cities Initiative. Today, (SCENE) continues to present contemporary exhibitions—now in a new location—with gallery management from Michigan State University’s department of Art, Art History & Design.
